Geometry CalculatorsThis section features a wide variety of geometry calculators. These geometry calculators are created to span the multiple branches of geometry and should cover the most popular geometry calculations commonly used today.

Geometry, one of the oldest forms of math, is a branch of mathematics which deals with understanding and analyzing shapes, sizes, figures, and space. The origins of geometry can be traced as far back as the 3rd century where early geometric principles were put to use for studying astronomy and the relationships between planets and stars.

These origins are attributed to the Greek mathematician Euclid of Alexandria, earning him the nickname the “Father of Geometry”. Euclid’s Elements was an extremely influential mathematical writing consisting of 13 books detailing and debating the basis of the field of geometry. Elements became one of the first mathematical textbooks to ever be printed after the invention of the printing press and it is often referred to as one of the most important texts ever written.

After Euclid’s initial body of work, many other mathematicians, scientists, and philosophers eventually played important roles in shaping the study of geometry. Notable figures that made significant contributions to the field include: René Descartes, Pierre de Fermat, János Bolyai, Leonhard Euler, Carl Friedrich Gauss, Nikolai Lobachevsky, and Bernhard Riemann.

In contemporary geometry, the subject can be broken down into multiple more specific types of geometric areas including: Euclidean geometry, differential geometry, topology, and algebraic geometry.

In educational systems, most countries generally begin introducing children to the field of geometry around the 8th-9th grade. Areas of geometry often serve as a basis for many advanced forms of mathematics and science. Students are generally required to take geometry as a prerequisite before taking higher level courses in fields such as calculus and physics.
